Account Manager - North America

  • On-site
    • Chicago (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
  • Mid Market Sales

Job description

We built and scaled a global customer base from our headquarters in Amsterdam. The United States became one of our most important markets, so we put people on the ground here. Our Chicago office in River North is open and running.

You'd be joining early, but not from zero. The person who built and ran our European mid-market sales team has moved to Chicago. We have an experienced Account Management team in Amsterdam, and you’ll onboard with them to learn every hard-won lesson from scaling that business: how customers actually get value from the platform, which conversations lead to expansion, how renewals are won long before they're due. Our first U.S. SDR is here, ramped and hitting their numbers. An Account Executive is closing new business alongside you. And one of our product marketers sits in this office, giving you a direct line into the product team when a customer needs something.

We've also been increasing investment in our marketing channels month over month, which means a growing customer base in North America for you to build on.

The timing couldn't be better. For years, FMCG companies have been stuck with limited choice among legacy market intelligence providers. Every quarter, more of them switch to Vesper. Once they do, the opportunity is to make Vesper indispensable to how they buy. That's your job. And you'll get to visit the canals in Amsterdam from time to time to meet the rest of your colleagues in person.

This is not your typical account management role. There's no queue of tickets and no script. You'll be the CEO of your portfolio: responsible for whether customers succeed with Vesper, whether they renew, and how much they grow.

Why you should join us

  • Own your portfolio outright. You decide where your time goes, which accounts to invest in, and how to grow them. Real responsibility, no hand-holding.

  • Retention and expansion, not just check-ins. You'll carry a number for both. The best account managers here find revenue that nobody asked them to find.

  • Sell to the toughest audience there is. Procurement teams negotiate for a living. Renewing and expanding with them is one of the best commercial educations you can get.

  • The European playbook is in the building. The leader who scaled our mid-market business in Europe is now based in Chicago, and a Vesper product marketer sits here too, so customer patterns, product answers, and proven approaches are a desk away rather than an eight-hour time difference.

  • Shape how we do this in North America. You're senior enough that the way you run onboarding, business reviews, and renewals becomes the pattern the next hires follow. You'll help define the North American customer motion, not inherit it.

  • We invest in your growth. We bring in outside trainers, run the internal Vesper Academy, and coach you on negotiation, commercial conversations, and account strategy.

  • Face-to-face, not just video. You'll visit strategic accounts across North America and represent Vesper at trade shows and industry events.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the full post-sale lifecycle. Onboarding, adoption, renewal, expansion. You manage all of it, proactively, for your book of North American accounts.

  • Grow your portfolio. Understand your customers' workflows deeply enough to find expansion opportunities before they surface as requests, then build the business case and close them.

  • Protect and win renewals. Know where every account stands well ahead of the date, negotiate value rather than discount, and forecast your book honestly.

  • Make customers demonstrably better at their jobs. You don't need to be a commodity consultant, but you do need to know the platform inside out and how each customer can extract the most value from it based on what they're actually trying to achieve.

  • Keep Vesper essential. Make sure customers know what the platform can do, stay current on new releases, and treat Vesper as a fixture in their workflow rather than a subscription they review once a year.

  • Feed the roadmap. Ask the right questions, listen, and get real customer signal back to our product team. With a product marketer down the hall, that loop is short.

  • Set the standard. As the first local Account Manager, you'll help build the playbook for North American account management and support newer team members as we grow the office.

What you'll bring

  • 4+ years owning customer relationships commercially, whether as an Account Manager, Customer Success Manager, or Account Executive in technology, or a background in procurement or trading that you've since turned commercial. Roughly four years plus, but experience matters more than the count.

  • A track record of carrying and hitting a retention or expansion number

  • A strong commercial mindset. What we mean by that: you understand how your customers' businesses work and how they make money, you've negotiated value before, and you actually enjoy the idea of selling something.

  • Genuine curiosity about customer workflows, and the discipline to turn what you learn into adoption and revenue

  • Comfort using data to decide where your attention goes

  • A natural team player. You contribute to the team's target, not just your own, and support the people around you.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where some processes exist and others you'll build; you learn quickly and adapt as our proposition evolves

  • Excellent written and spoken English. Spanish or French is a plus

  • Experience with a CRM is helpful (we use HubSpot)

  • Willingness to travel across North America for customer visits and industry events

  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

  • Based in Chicago, or willing to relocate, and able to work on-site

The role can be a Senior Account Manager for candidates with the right experience.

What you get

  • Personal responsibility with a ton of autonomy and growth potential. You're shaping a new market.

  • An entrepreneurial environment where you learn more every day

  • International experience working in a global company

  • A strong team that supports each other

  • A chance to see your work make a real difference; we work in the food industry

  • A fantastic office in River North, Chicago
